Privacy Policy
Short version: no accounts, no cookies, no tracking, no ads. To keep the free checks fair we store a daily, one-way code derived from your IP address, and erase it after two days.

Who is responsible
HeadlineCheck is run by Oana Sabina, Romania (the “controller” under the GDPR). Questions or requests: contact@headlinecheck.com.
What we store about you
- Nothing to read the site. There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics or advertising scripts, and our web server does not keep access logs.
- When you start a check, submit a link or report an error, we store a keyed one-way hash of your IP address combined with the date. It lets us apply the daily limits (for example 3 checks per person). We cannot read your IP address from it, the code changes every day, and it is erased after two days.
- What you write in “Report an error”. Your reason and comment are stored with the report they refer to and used to improve the checks. Please don’t include personal information.
- Button counts. We count clicks on some buttons per day, as plain totals with nothing that identifies you.
Articles and the AI check
We fetch publicly available news pages (respecting each site’s robots.txt) to check them. The article text is kept for 30 days for the analysis and is never shown on this site: we show only the headline, a short summary and a link to the original. The checks themselves (statements, verdicts and source links) are public.
To run a check we send the article text and its statements to Anthropic (the Claude AI model) and short search queries to Tavily (web search). No information about you is sent to them. The site runs on a server in the European Union.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to, correction or erasure of personal data about you, object to its processing, or ask us to restrict it. Because we only keep an anonymous daily code that we cannot link back to you, we usually hold nothing we could identify you by, but write to us and we will help. You can also complain to the Romanian data protection authority (ANSPDCP, dataprotection.ro) or the authority where you live.
Legal basis
Our legitimate interest in providing a free, fair and safe service (applying usage limits, preventing abuse, improving the checks with your reports).
Changes
If this policy changes, we update this page and the date above.
