Faits vérifiés

  1. Confirmée A man fatally shot eight people, including a pregnant woman and children, at a residence in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Friday before killing himself, according to police.

IA Several results report that a 45-year-old gunman killed eight people, including a pregnant woman and two young children, at a home in Erie on Friday before killing himself, citing police and a press conference. The results attribute the account to police and officials, and some of them repeat the same police briefing, so they are not fully independent sources. The exact street address of the residence is not confirmed beyond the 700 block of Perry Street, but this does not affect the core claim.

  2. Confirmée Erie police discovered the killings at about 5pm on Friday after officers were called to a residence following reports of gunfire.

IA Several results say Erie police were called around 5 p.m. on Friday after reports of shots fired, and found victims at the scene. Al Jazeera and CBS Pittsburgh give the 5 p.m. call time, and the BBC describes a Friday afternoon call after witnesses reported gunfire. The results do not state precisely when the bodies were found, so that exact timing is only approximated by the call time.

  3. Confirmée Responding officers found two women lying dead in the street in Erie, both with gunshot wounds.

IA Several results report that police responding to the Erie, Pennsylvania shooting found two women dead in the street, and NBC10 specifically says they had been shot to death, which matches the claim's gunshot wounds. The results do not describe the women's position in detail beyond being in the street, and several reports appear to trace back to the same Erie News Now report.

  4. Confirmée Investigators believe the attacker died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

IA Several results state that the gunman was found dead of an apparent or suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, and Result 1 attributes this directly to investigators. Results 2 and 3 likely repeat the same local reporting, so they are not fully independent sources.

  5. Confirmée Erie police chief Rick Lorah said at a Saturday news conference that it was premature to speculate about the suspected gunman's motive, but that mental health may have played a role.

IA Result 2 quotes Chief Rick Lorah saying it was "too soon" to determine a motive and that he believes mental health issues played a role, which matches the core of the claim. The snippets do not explicitly tie that statement to the Saturday news conference, though Results 1 and 5 say a Saturday briefing was scheduled.

  6. Confirmée The suspect had a history with law enforcement, but the nature of that history remains unclear.

IA Idaho Statesman (citing Police Chief Rick Lorah) says police had a history of contact with the suspected shooter, with the last interaction recalled in 2022. The snippet does not describe the nature of that contact, which matches the claim that it remains unclear.

Non vérifiables

Aucune source indépendante ne les a confirmées ni démenties. Cela ne veut pas dire qu’elles sont fausses.

  1. Non vérifiée Inside the Erie home, police found six additional victims, including a five-year-old boy and a one-year-old girl, as well as the suspected assailant.

IA The results confirm that a 5-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl were among the victims in Erie and that the suspected shooter was dead. However, none of them describe police finding six additional victims inside the home, and the reported totals (eight or nine dead, with unclear treatment of the shooter) do not allow that count to be checked.

  2. Non vérifiée Erie mayor Daria Devlin said some of the family members who also lived at the residence had been away.

IA The search results confirm that Mayor Daria Devlin spoke at press conferences about the Erie shooting and about confirming the number of deceased family members. None of them mention her saying that some family members who also lived at the residence had been away, so the core claim can be neither confirmed nor contradicted.
